Stella and Dot Launch Party

Ok so it's been a couple of weeks since my launch party for Stella and Dot. I was debating on even talking about it because only two people showed up. ha, yup two. I am not going to lie. I was slightly bummed, I told my neighborhood friends about this party that was only 2 hours. I had this vision that I would start selling the jewelery and bam I would have 10 trunk shows booked. Not the case.

I did get some good advice from my friend and Stroller Stride instructor who reminded me of the days last summer when it was just her and I working out alone. Today she has a really big following and is very successful, it just took a year to get there.

In the end it was a good thing because I am not putting as much pressure on myself to make a full time job out of this business and really am just doing it for fun. Pressure be gone!

I have started a great collection thus far of the jewelery which I cannot get enough of but here are some fabulous photos of what a trunk show looks like! My friend and sponsor Lisa was kind enough to bring all of her jewels to display.

I am off to Chicago tomorrow for a week so will resume the blog next Friday....stay tuned.

The Magical World of Photography

I bought myself a Canon DSLR camera when Claire was born. I had no idea how to use the additional features on my camera. Not until I took a DSLR workshop this past Saturday at Creative Digital Workshops.

I learned the three main components of photography: Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO. Simply put Aperture is the size of the hole in the lens and helps with depth of field, Shutter Speed is how long the lens hole is open and is useful in sports or slowing motion down, and ISO is used to help with the lighting, as if you are indoors or outdoors and similar to the old days of film.

I have practiced a little and am starting to figure how to mix all three elements together. I also have realized that the lens that came with my camera is not good for the types of shots I want to take such as this gorgeous shot by our baby photographer Aaryn James Photography

You see how the background is beautifully lit but blurred and Claire pops out of the picture? My current lens doesn't even come close to making Claire pop out of the picture. I learned I need a lens that starts at a 1.4 aperture. My current lens starts at a 5.6

Flower Arrangements by a Total Amateur

Happy Wednesday!

Over the weekend I was reading some of my favorite blogs and came across this great post on Sterling Style. The post discussed taking flowers and branches from your garden to create nice and easy centerpieces for your home. (The video embedded is a must see).

I didn't have a lot of time on Saturday to take flowers and branches from my garden so instead I headed off to Trader Joes and grabbed three different types of flowers. I took inspiration from the video and created my own masterpieces. Well maybe not masterpieces but it sure felt that way! Take a look at the results and let me know what you think!

Stella and Dot Fridays

yay Stella and Dot Fridays! :) I am still trying to get off the ground with this new business and I am pretty excited for the potential. Plus I am a sucker for amazing costume jewelery. I wanted to take a day where I highlight some items I love from the product line.

The great thing about this business so far is that there are not any quotas and you can sort of make it what you want. I personally wanted the jewelery first and foremost and now am finding ways to earn that money back.

I also wanted to use it as an excuse to travel a little bit more to see my friends and host a party for a couple hours then spend the rest of the weekend catching up!

First up is this limited edition Safari Necklace, I think it would look great with a bright colored dress or an all black outfit with a gold purse. http://shop.stelladot.com/ErinRedmond

My next favorite that I just ordered is the Midnight necklace, the top one. It looks fabulous with the other two if you wanted to do a delicate anytime look. I personally will wear it on days where I am running errands or going to a casual lunch. http://shop.stelladot.com/style/b2c_en_us/after-midnight-necklace.html?s=ErinRedmond

The Lindsay Stack are great bracelets for summer. You can wear one alone with a watch and other bracelets or you can stack them together. Perfect for a day at the pool or on vacation! http://shop.stelladot.com/style/b2c_en_us/lindsay-bangles.html?s=ErinRedmond

And finally, I have seen this type of bracelet featured in many blogs I follow. Again its a great layering piece. (the black leather bracelet). Something different a traditional jewelery individual may not pick. But it looks great on! http://shop.stelladot.com/style/b2c_en_us/clover-double-wrap-leather-bracelet.html?s=ErinRedmond

Coffee Table Dilemna

For the longest time I had no idea how to style my coffee table. We have a rather large one in our living room and I've put random things on it before but it just never looked right.

Until I came across this fabulous article from one of my new favorite blogs How to Style a Coffee Table

Before my table had three candles on it and that was it. Nada else. I wish I took photos but you probably get the gist. Anyways here is what I came up with with knick naks around my house after I read the article. I am pretty happy with the turnout!

Pregnancy Exercise Ideas

My goal this pregnancy is to not gain the 45lbs I gained with Claire with the last 10lbs hanging around like a bad hangover. I enjoyed my exercise free months while pregnant with Claire and plan give it my all with exercise this time.

With that said I have continued my regular spin class (at a much lighter level) and have some amazing barre type of workout videos I must recommend for all you pregnant and non pregnant friends.

Physique 57 is a fabulous full body workout that literally kicks my butt when not pregnant. You can be in the best shape and do this video and want to die. I have both versions and do them a few times a week. I skip the ab portion or do a very modified version of them.

The Bar Method has an incredible pregnancy workout that is good to do when I am bigger or want to take it a little easier.

Some of my favorite workout gear pregnant or not is by Lululemon. Below are some of the items I am currently loving!

Maternity Clothing Woes

The one thing I really dislike about being pregnant is having to spend money on maternity clothes. Especially when I am not working and trying to save money for real everyday clothing and living expenses.

I try to wear my sweats as long as I can but I can't much go out of the house every day in sweats. Hence the investment in maternity wear. This time I'm pregnant in an opposite season than I was with Claire. The good news is summer is great for flowy clothing. My maternity jeans barely fit by the end of my last pregnancy so its nice to know I can keep cool in skirts and dresses.

I recently read on Lil Sugar that Rosie Pope, a high end maternity designer, is coming out with a collection for a Pea in the Pod. This is great news. I am not sure when its set to launch but if in time I will be purchasing an outfit or two. Until then here are some good finds I found recently.
