The truth of the matter is that I have been doing 3 days of circuit training with heavy weights and alternating 2 days a week of short interval training. My diet has been really good during the week and somewhat lax on the weekends. I have stayed away from my favorites. i.e. chips, crackers, sandwiches, deserts and have traded up with lean proteins, salads, dark chocolate, and protein shakes. It took me about a month to accept that I wasn't going to eat junk or do my usual snack a thons and now it is quite easy to stay on track.
I am currently in my pants that I wore in between pregnancies but I have a ways to go to get back to normal. But slow progress is progress and I am happy. Just a testament that when you lift weights you often will not see the scale budge for a while as you are building muscle, and after being pregnant for 9 months then having back surgery I guarantee I lost almost all my muscle from over the years.
You may wonder where I get the time to exercise being at home all day with two kids, one being an infant. I have some fabulous tips for anyone wanting to get healthy but don't have much time to get out of the house.
1. I do 25 minutes of full body circuit training of videos from a program called Metabolic Effect Lifestylers Club. Their whole premise is finding a way of eating and exercise that works best for you. The full body strength training uses dumbbells and I am so out of breath and sweaty by the end of it. It will kick your butt. I also find Jackie Warner's weight videos to be incredibly challenging. This one below is really tough.
2. I workout after Tom and Claire have eaten and have them hang out with me while I exercise. Claire sometimes will mimic my moves but for the most part she will sit near by playing with her toys. Tom currently likes the jumparoo, so he entertains himself for the short 25 minutes.
5.For my interval training I do 2 days of intervals on the elliptical. I tried sprints on the tredmill but I am still tight from surgery so my step was off. I do 40 minutes total and go when Nik gets home from work or on the weekends. I do a 10 min warm up then for the next 20 minutes go as fast as I can at level 14, then back to a 10 for rest then up to a 15 for a min as hard as I can then a level 10, then up to level 16 as hard as I can for a min, back down to 10. I repeat levels 14-16 until I hit minute 31 then i take it easy till 40 minutes. I have swapped out some dailey method videos on days I don't want to do intervals.
6. There you have it, my weight workouts are at home, my intervals at the gym when Nik is home and I still have plenty of time to play with the kids! I also like that Claire sees me exercising because I want her to grow up to make some healthy exercise choices!
My sister btw is getting married in June and my goal is to look fantab for it! So gotta keep going!
