Recent Purchases to Help with Sleep Training

Thomas the non napper
Lately Claire has been coming to me with her sippy cup asking for her naps. Weird right, almost too good to be true. But I am just going to go with it. Tom on the other hand love his naps, but only if you stay still and he sleeps on you for a couple hours. Not exactly possible, or productive. As Tom approaches his 5th month I am bringing out the big guns to start his sleep training.

Working in Healthy Habits with Two Little Ones

On Claire: Sweatshirt: Old Navy, Pants: Old Navy, Shoes: New Balance On Me: Necklace Stella and Dot, Shoes: Tory Burch, Sunglasses: Tory Burch Old, Jeans AG, bag Tory Burch, Shirt Everly ,

Can you guess I like Tory Burch? My shoes and purse were Christmas gifts, super fun Xmas. Anywho I wanted to give you an update on my health and fitness progress. I finally got on the scale that I have been avoiding and I just could not get an accurate read (fluctuated 3lbs from morning and night). I will tell you why. I have lost about 6% body fat but the scale has barely moved. My clothes are fitting better and I feel healthier but I still went to that holy crap I have been working so hard and haven't lost any weight mentality.....

February PopSugar Must Have Review

I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday weekend. I love holiday weekends, but it really makes waking up on Tuesday hard. Nik and I had a date day on Saturday and it was so nice to get out, drink some wine, and relax without the kids. I think we are going to make it a once a month occurrence. Lunch is perfect too because you still have the rest of the day to play with the little guys.

More good stuff after the break.....

Carmel Wine Tasting

Hi Mr Bagpiper out there

ooph not the best pic but you can see how cold it was

A couple weeks ago I mentioned my friends from Chicago and I (my husband and kids) met up in Carmel for a mellow weekend of wine tasting and hanging out. Unfortunately the sun did not come out all weekend but we still had a great time. The first night we went to Pebble Beach to have some drinks by the fire pits and listen to the Bagpipe player at the Inn at Spanish Bay  which I had actually never been too but it was gorgeous and I can't wait to go again on a nice sunny day. We didn't last too long after sunset because it was damn cold.

Valentines Day Goodness

Valentine's Day was never really my favorite holiday, except when I was young and I would stuff my face with candy. Then when I was single it was an awesome reminder I was single, so I would stuff my face with wine with my friends. When I had a boyfriend it's like ok we have to go to some prix fix dinner and well stuff my face with food with a ton of other couples. And now that I am married I don't do anything. Go figure. Although we are going to have a lunch date this Saturday sans kids so there you go, that is my Valentine's Day.

I also am such a procrastinator with gifts I literally have been staring at this print above for the last month but kept forgetting to buy it for Nik. I realized today was Valentine's Day so purchased it this morning. Surprise! Happy Valentine's Day! :) I actually really love this quote.

For those of you who don't know me I met my husband studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland. However we didn't get back together or married until at least 10 years later. Ireland was one of the best times of my life, mainly because I drank a ton and traveled all over. Plus Nik and I always had a blast together. Sort of funny how life turns out.

I bought this print for him (which I will frame and hang up by the bed) because I love this quote but most importantly when I leave the dishes out and don't put the laundry away I will just point to this print smirk and say remember this quote! Happy Valentines Day!

You can find this print and tons of other really cool ones on http://www.stephaniesterjovski.com/. She is in Canada but its still pretty affordable.

It's a Girly 2nd Birthday Around Here

My little Claire turned 2 years old and funny enough I woke up on Sunday the 10th right at the time she was born at 6:21 am. Problem was that I couldn't go back to sleep. So we had a big day and I let Claire enjoy a cupcake for breakfast, enjoy her princess castle, and had a decent day at the zoo.

I have decided also to get more involved in the local mom's group for Claire's sake, she is terrified of anyone new lately and refuses to go into buildings. I am sure it's a phase but now that Tom is older I think I can handle both of them out and about more.

Here are some highlights. If you are looking for a good castle for your little one, I found this one on Amazon for $35 and you can use inside or outside. Princess Tent

January Wittle Bee Review

Claire will be 2 on Sunday and we are just as a family going for pizza and the zoo, maybe make a cake at home. I am thinking I may start real birthday parties when she is 3 and in preschool for a bit. I figure at 1 and 2 they don't really get it so we will just do a fun little activity together rather than a party.

Lately she's been into hiding under coffee tables so we got her a little princess tent she can sit in rather than under the tables. She can force feed tea to Charlie the pug in there, as she likes to do to the poor guy. Dogs don't like tea.

However what she really needs are some new clothes. I feel like each week I am constantly moving her clothing into the giveaway bins. She's almost now in a full 3T, shes pretty tall. 2T fits but its at the point where if I bought something in 2T it would maybe only last another month. With that said we got our latest WittleBee box just in time, however it's still in 2T. What is nice though is that you can update the sizing at any point, so it was a good reminder to do so for February.

WittleBee is great because you literally get 5-6 basic items each month for much less than if I were going to go shopping at Target (although I still do)

The selection this month was great and we received our first sweater! My favorite item though is the cute moon drawing the constellations Tshirt ironically by one of my husbands favorite brands Thredless.

Cross Trainers for Weight Training and my Progress

So Tom is relaxifying in his bumbo right now allowing me some time to write. So to give everyone an update on my new years fitness and health goals I have been staying strong. I have lost 2 inches off my waist, 1 inch off my legs and 1 inch off my hips. I am not weighing myself because I made the decision to drop my cardio addiction and move back to weight training which I used to do back in the day when I looked my best. And weight training causes me to gain at first and I don't want to get discouraged.

I don't know what it is, maybe the music in a spin class but I feed off the energy of a class and love it. It does not however move me towards my weight loss goals which is the main reason I would do spin 4 days a week. Sort of a waste. Now that I am doing interval training on the treadmill or elliptical (one minute really fast or at a high resistance and one minute slow for 30 minutes total) and 25 minutes heavy weight training I am starting to get smaller. hooray! Granted I am ok if it takes me 6 months, I am not in a rush as long as I am moving towards a goal of being fit, lean, and healthy like I used to be I am happy. I never tend to lose weight quickly either because I am hypo thyroid.

Kids and Life Balance

What do you do when your kids schedules get in the way of your blogging goals? Not that they are in the way, they are awesome, its time for serious work/life balance here. First of all it's tough staying home alone with two kids under 2 all day. I find it so much harder to stay at home than when I went to work everyday. Tom wants me to hold him all day long and screams bloody murder if I put him down, meanwhile Claire is destroying the house and not getting enough of my time. At the same time I want to carve out some me time for working out and blogging.

By the time Nik gets home I am off to exercise and then exhausted to do anything with my blog. Blogging is set aside for times where they are both asleep (which is rare) or on the weekends. Weekends are also hard because I need to plan my content better if I am to do a week of blogging over the weekends.  Ahhh just a lot to figure out.

What made me realize I don't have a great work/life balance is that I had a fabulous weekend in Carmel-by-the-Sea with some good friends from Chicago and we brought the kids for Tom's first trip out of town. It was a ton of fun catching up and hearing stories from my old job and hearing how everyone is doing. It was also extremely exhausting because Claire was having tons of temper tantrums in town (aka laying on the sidewalk and screaming) and Tom was well, a 4 month old :)

I will have some pictures soon, but I will admit, I was sort of sad when my friends left back to Chicago. I miss living in Chicago as well as San Francisco, really a major city, and working. I miss interacting with adults during the day and yes managing accounts. I love that I can stay home at the moment but I got a little nostalgic.

If anything it made me realize that I need to carve out some time to blog because I find it makes me happy and keeps the stress level down with two kids or babies.

I know this post is more wordy than usual but whatever. I will say the moby wrap is a god send if you want free hands with your baby, I highly recommend as I am wearing Tom as I type. But that is enough of that... this weekend is Claire's 2nd birthday and I really cannot wait. Mainly because we are going to the zoo to celebrate! Time surely has flown by.

What are your ways to unwind now that you have kids?
